Immediate restoration of traffic movement top priority, says DC Ramban

Srinagar, May 08 (KNO): The landslide-hit Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed on Thursday with the administration stating that road clearance operations are underway. The highway was closed for traffic following a cloudburst and subsequent mudslides at over five locations, severely impacting vehicular movement and stranding commuters. Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that immediate restoration of traffic movement on the highway is a top priority to ensure that stranded vehicles and passengers reach their destinations safely. He said that adequate manpower and machinery have been deployed to expedite the clearance operations. The Deputy Commissioner also said that the cloudburst has significantly affected villages such as Bagna, Marog, Balihote, and Sincha. Assessment of damages and immediate restoration work will begin soon in these areas to mitigate the impact on local residents. Furthermore, the district administration is providing all possible assistance, including food and other essential items, to stranded drivers and others in need. The Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the public to remain patient, follow official traffic and weather advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel until the highway is fully restored and safe for movement.
